Posting blues explored

I just discovered someone real made a comment! Thank you! That makes this a better than ordinary day in the blogging world.

One reason I haven't been posting much here is that it feels like I'm just throwing the words out there and they're probably not being read. Since I spend so much time on the forum where I know I'm read and get practically instant feedback sometimes, it's hard to drag myself over here. What can I say here that I haven't already said there?

Fellow bloggers, I'm curious. Do you have the same feeling? Or does it feel in some way worthwhile to put your words online where they may or may not be read, where they are terrifyingly public but likely to be ignored? What does a blog give us that a diary (for private and personal thoughts) or a forum (for broadcast and discussion with others) does not?

As opposed to a diary...
A blog gives you an audience of sorts. It's a lazy way of keeping in touch with family and friends all at once rather than calling or E-mailing, or allows you to express yourself to others in your chosen persona (if you don't like the one you were given) with feedback from others.

As opposed to a forum...
The rule on a blog is that this is your show and there is more control over the topic than would be in a forum, where one is subject to the rules of that society - both written and unwritten. It allows you to explore what you want, when you want, if you want, and allows you to choose who participates. While the response time is not as rapid as a forum, there is a tendency for responses to be more genuine and intimate because the respondent is addressing the poster directly one-on-one, not in front of a virtual room full of people.

So now you know your blog is not ignored. Stick around a while and don't be a stranger.

As you say, we all need to dream and sometimes the best way to dream is to write those dreams in a place where others might share them. I know that occationally people read blogs but never say anything back. I have done so. But i thinks it gives the lone blogger a way to express themselves without havin to corner some one in the real world to talk to. And if you say something that the reader doesn't like it is less likely to get told off in a blog than a forum.
I get alot of releif from just posting my feeling in a mediphoric maner so that i can work on them and get around the obsticals in my path before having to face anyone. It is a way of "talking about it".
I really enjoyed reading some of your blog and i will come back and keep up with it if you decide to keep it.

When I started blogging I wondered if anyone was reading. I don't think anyone was. Then I stopped caring about the audience and just wrote (because I love writing, even if it's nonsense) and people started reading.
